Why Work With Me?

I specialize in helping individuals to discover and correct underlying nutritional imbalances in the body that lead to symptoms of disease and poor health.  I have experience in working with a wide variety of clients, including both those who are new to a real food lifestyle and others that may be well-versed on the principles of following an ancestral or healing diet.  Because every individual is unique, there is no one perfect diet for everyone and it can be challenging to put all of the puzzle pieces together on your own.

Because of my personal experiences in dealing with autoimmune disease, I understand how frustrating it can be to navigate the system and get real answers and solutions to health concerns.  There is a great deal of conflicting information out there about what works to improve overall health and it is no wonder that people can feel confused about what direction to take and the steps necessary to make a diet or lifestyle change.  That is where my unique background and skills can help you the most.  My experience and education as a registered nurse arms me with in-depth knowledge of pathophysiology and chronic disease management, while my background as a certified nutritional therapist allows me to hone in on the specific nutritional deficiencies that often contribute to disease.  As a bonus, I can use my fitness background to help you achieve goals that may include looking good as well as feeling great!

I am here to provide guidance on your path to optimal health and wellness.  Not sure if nutritional therapy and functional health is right for you?  Sign up for a free 15-minute consultation and we can discuss your specific needs and goals to make sure that working together will be a good fit.

Type of Clients With Whom I Work:

I enjoy working with clients that have a wide variety of health concerns and goals.  My specialty areas are autoimmune disease, digestive disorders, migraines, and food intolerances.  Many of my clients are dealing with concerns that include:

  • Crohn’s Disease/Ulcerative Colitis/Inflammatory Bowel Disease
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome
  • Celiac Disease
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis/Psoriatic Arthritis/Inflammatory Arthritis
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Myasthenia Gravis
  • Migraines/Headaches
  • Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis/Grave’s Disease/Hypothyroidism
  • Acne/Eczema/Skin Conditions
  • Type I and Type II Diabetes
  • Hormonal Health
  • Weight Gain/Weight Loss

While I occasionally make special arrangements for clients with specific needs, most clients require an in-depth health and nutrition assessment and additional follow-up sessions to keep them on track and move them toward their goals.  All appointments are offered at your convenience and can be scheduled by contacting Katy.

In addition to one-on-one nutritional support, I offer a variety of functional lab and food sensitivity testing panels, including MRT (mediated release testing) food sensitivity testing, hormone saliva testing, and blood testing for numerous health indicators.  This testing is optional, but it can be helpful in particularly challenging cases in which a healing diet is not giving you the results that you want.  In general, this type of lab testing is not covered by insurance, but it can be submitted to health savings account plans for consideration of reimbursement, as well as my general nutritional therapy services.

Do you have more questions about my services?  Visit the Nutritional Therapy FAQs page or email me at katy@thepaleonurse.com.

*Please note that I do not diagnose or treat disease.  I support the body’s own healing abilities and help to guide the correction of nutritional deficiencies through the power of real food and natural movement.*

Complimentary Consultation

All nutritional therapy services begin with this complimentary 15-minute consultation.  During this telephone or Skype call, I’ll learn a bit about you, your health concerns, and what goals you hope to accomplish by undertaking a nutritional therapy program.  I’ll also share my experience and background with you to make sure that working together will be a good fit.  I am selective with the clients that I work with, and if necessary, I may refer you onto a different practitioner.  If we both decide that we would like to proceed with partnering together on your health journey, I will provide you with instructions and explain the process for doing so.

This program begins with a 60-minute individualized assessment in which I’ll evaluate your health history, current diet, medication and supplement regimen, stress level, exercise program, environmental exposures, and other lifestyle factors that may be impacting your health.  At the end of the assessment, I will formulate individualized nutrition, supplement, functional lab testing (if applicable), and lifestyle recommendations that will help you to achieve your identified health goals.  The recommendations will be reviewed at a 30 minute follow-up session scheduled within a week of your individualized assessment.
